Baker

No wedding is complete without a wedding cake. A symbol of a couple's fertility and abundance, the cake has played a part in weddings since ancient times. It is also perhaps the one aspect of the reception that guests look forward to the most. For this reason, it is important that you shop carefully for your baker.

Begin your quest for a baker at least four months before your wedding. Flip through bridal magazines, attend different weddings and visit area bakeries to get a feel for the types of cakes available. A traditional wedding cake consists of three tiers and is made of white cake with frosted butter cream icing. However, more contemporary brides are choosing cakes made of chocolate, lemon, carrot, bananas and raspberry. You can also combine flavors such as chocolate cake with fresh raspberries, yellow cake with chocolate mousse filling or hazelnut cake with pistachio meringues. All can be frosted with the traditional white butter cream frosting.
