Wedding Planning & Ideas

Bridal Registry
The ideal time to set up your
bridal registry at area stores is shortly after you have announced your
engagement. This is also known as a wedding gift registry and is usually a
free service offered by specialty stores and better department stores.
Through this service the bride and groom may select exactly the merchandise
they would like to receive, including the patterns, colors, sizes and
quantities of such things as china, crystal, silver, kitchen and even
household items and furnishings. The bridal or wedding gift registry is then
available to friends, relatives and wedding guests who want to send gifts
for both pre-wedding parties, as well as the wedding itself.
The registry also keeps
track of which items have been purchased so that other gift-givers may be
guided in not duplicating the choice of someone else. The stores usually
provide a computerized print-out of registered choices, which may also
simplify gift-giving. It makes it easy for your guests to shop for your gift
and increases the chances that you will receive something you really want,
hopefully without duplication. Many stores will additionally fax a print-out
of your registry list to out-of-town guests who may choose to place an order
by telephone and credit card. Guests appreciate ease and availability in
choosing gifts which they know you will appreciate because you have selected
it.
Plan to make selections at least six months before the wedding date as the patterns and styles you choose may need to be ordered so that the stores can stock your preferences. Many stores, in order not to be rushed or distracted, prefer that you set up an appointment during weekday business hours rather than on a weekend or when the store has a sale in progress.
